Florida Shines in Ratebeer’s Best of 2011

No beer culture, you say?  Tell that to the craft beer lovers in Florida now that the latest Ratebeer.com Best 2011 Awards have been released.  From breweries to beer bars, brewpubs to restaurants, Florida has onace again made a showing in this reviewer-driven recognition.  Although anchored by the ongoing success and popularity of Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, this was not just the Joey Redner and Wayne Wambles show, Florida picked up spots in every category except those outside the United States.

Some of the highlights included:

So, if there wer any questions about the growth of craft beer in Florida, they should be put to rest.  Florida is quickly becoming a beer destination, and the culture we hold dear is maturing and taking root in the Sunshine State.  At the risk of sounding like someone from the tourist board, come visit!  We have no snow, some of the finest beaches in the world, and a world-class beer culture in the making.

Cheers!

Now it’s time for some of that beer culture to reach Fort Myers. For now, at least I’m within driving distance of Cigar City and Peg’s Cantina. Another excellent place that’s just north of Fort Myers is The Ice House Pub in Punta Gorda. Too bad it’s still 30 miles away.
