Creative Loafing auction adds more craft beer items
Each year, local magazine Creative Loafing holds an online auction to benefit The Children’s Home, an 118-year-old organization providing safe
haven for neglected and abused children and helping nearly 12,000 adults and kids annually. Items run the full spectrum from DVD packages and spa days to even “owning” the cover of the magazine for an issue and highlighting whatever you choose. Last year, one of the highest bids came in for a special beer tasting with Joey Redner at Cigar City Brewing. The promise of special beers and a chance to enjoy them with the creators was a hot ticket item, and eventually went for $1,250. This year, craft beer has expanded in a huge way. No less than nine items up for auction are connected with the craft beer scene in Tampa Bay. (So much for no beer culture, eh?)
Here is what you need to know:
Item #016 – The Dunedin Experience – Winners get to have a blast in the wonderful town of Dunedin, but best of all, get to be a “brewer’s
apprentice” at the oldest microbrewery in Florida, the Dunedin Brewery!
Item #026 – Guest List at New World for a Year- One of the great craft beer bars in Ybor City.
Item #052 – Craft Beer Dinner in The Refinery’s Chef’s Suite - An all-inclusive dinner masterfully paired with craft beers from the Reader’s Choice Best Chef of 2010.
Item #056 – Datz’s Gourmet Bacon Dinner for 8- While craft beer is not expressly mentioned in this item, Datz is well known for its amazing selection of excellent beer. One would assume it would pair well with this incredible bacon extravaganza.
Item #063 – Brewer for a Day at Tampa Bay Brewing Company and a Pizza Party- Ybor’s go-to locale for craft beer and great food. Spend some time with brewer Dave Doble and his team to brew one of TBBC’s beers, then come back in a month and enjoy it with pizza!
Item #066 – Brew your own beer at Cigar City Brewing- “Ultimate craft beer bragging rites” is right. Alongside owner Joey Redner and brewmaster Wayne Wambles, you can design your own brew for CCB.
Item #067 – Taste the best of Cigar City- Joey Redner will be handpicking a number of special-edition, limited-release – and highly coveted – bottles, including ones that you can longer find in stores.
Item #068 – Private Belgian beer tasting at The Independent – Sample seven different Belgian and Belgian-Style Beers served with mussels cooked in Belgian beer, all while learning about the style from the owners of The Independent.
Item #069 – Beer tasting at Stone Soup Cafe - Sample a selection of craft beer at St. Petersburg’s Stone Soup Cafe.
Remember, this is for charity. And some of these are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities!
