Each year, local magazine Creative Loafing holds an online auction to benefit The Children’s Home, an 118-year-old organization providing safe haven for neglected and abused children and helping nearly 12,000 adults and kids annually. Items run the full spectrum from DVD packages and spa days to even “owning” the cover of the magazine for an issue and highlighting whatever you choose. Last year, one of the highest bids came in for a special beer tasting with Joey Redner at Cigar City Brewing. The promise of special beers and a chance to enjoy them with the creators was a hot ticket item, and eventually went for $1,250. This year, craft beer has expanded in a huge way. No less than nine items up for auction are connected with the craft beer scene in Tampa Bay. (So much for no beer culture, eh?)
